Austria plans Sound Of Music museum

Filed under: Articles — AnaM @ 10:33 am

According to the electronic version of the Telegraph, tourism officials in Salzburg are considering plans to open a Sound of Music museum to cash in on the popularity of the musical.
The 1965 film starring Julie Andrews as a singing nun turned governess to the von Trapp family is based on real events and was filmed on location in the Austrian capital.
The Rogers and Hammerstein film and original Broadway production which contain songs such as Edelweis, My Favourite things, and Do-Re-Mi were based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp and have attracted cult followers of all generations.

Officials believe a museum containing memorabilia from the film could draw 140,000 visitors a year. The proposal comes just weeks after a plan to open the Von Trapp family mansion as a new Sound Of Music-themed hotel.
But residents of the district where the real von Trapp family lived before fleeing the Nazis at the start of the Second World War have protested the plans.
